India. Somewhere ...

And yes! BEFORE I ever came up with the "TERM", ahh, "BRICK ART"! No, that came later!

But now that I think about it, yeah, not THAT long after! Yeah, I checked, 2/7/2020.

In fact, that must have been the last trip I made before being "Shut Down" due to Covid ...

Anywho ...

Yeah, while on that trip to India, we stopped in some village, somewhere, and yeah, THIS is an image I made, once again, by playing off the contrast between the SUBJECT and the SHADOW!

And yes, I'm sure I did "MY THING" and went through that whole MINUS, MINUS, MINUS routine, and came away with this one! All, MY NORM.

-0.7.

Yeah, that is where I set my camera (like, ALL my cameras!) as my "Starting Point", and work from there!

Been doing that for YEARS!

Yeah, I used to just set my ASA at 80, when shooting that old, Kodak 64 Kodachrome slide film that was all the rage back in the 1980s ...

Yeah, I found out "all the NATIONAL GEPGRAPHIC photographers did it, to "under expose" all their images, you know, for better results when published in the magazine!

Who knew?

Well, besides all the "PRO" magazine photographers out there at the time!

And then, ahh, me.

Been shooting "THAT WAY" ever since.

Worked for Kodachrome 64, and yeah, then yeah, Fujichrome 100, my film of choice before changing over to all this DIGITAL stuff that I shoot with today!

"SAME, SAME".

Yeah, today, I just set my digital cameras to -0.7 and go from there! And yes, unless I'm shooting SNOW, or the WHITE SANDS out there in new Mexico, oh yeah, say it with me!

MINUS, MINUS, MINUS!

Which in this rare case, yeah! Turned out to me what I ended up using! Go figure.

-0.7.

WORKED FOR ME!

Yes, sometimes it really is that SIMPLE!

And LUCKY.

But yeah, you'll never know, unless you SHOOT, ADJUST, SHOOT, ADJUST, SHOOT ADJUST ... And then, once you see you GOT IT, yeah, "Let 'er Rip"! Over and over again!

It is so much "EASIER" now, you know, once you can SEE THE RESULTS in, ahh, "Real Time"!

Worked for me here ...

-0.7.

Crazy.

And yeah, another thing I used to "TALK ABOUT", and "WRITE ABOUT", ahh ... Like, all the time!

"KEEP IT SIMPLE".

Yeah, I "learned that one", from THE NEW YORK INSTITUTE of PHOTOGRAPHY, back in the day! Ahh, "THROUGH THE MAIL"!

In fact, it was referred to as the "K.I.S.S. Principle" ... You know, "KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID".

But me, being the Middle School Special Ed. teacher that I was, yeah, I sort of "changed it" to, ahh ... "KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUDENTS".

Same concept, just a nicer, gentler, choice of word!

Try it! You just might like it ... Under-expose your images to bring out the darker, richer, colors that seem to enrich your images!

Not PERFECT, but then again, few things (if any) in life really are!

See what you think ... It's YOUR art, take charge!

Oh, and an easy "fix", if you don't like the results.

Just "MINUS" things a wee-bit!

That SIMPLE.

That easy.

And there you go!

Two of my "most used lessons" that I have learned, and have actually used everyday, over the years ...

Good luck with that.

Just have fun, and look out for the, ahh, SIMPLE things in life!

Time for my walk.

Talk about keeping it simple!

Ha.

Later ...
